Eduardo Rodriguez is out for the season

Eduardo Rodriguez wasn’t going to single-handedly turn the Red Sox into championship contenders, but he was going to be the number one starter in what has already proven to be a mediocre pitching rotation.

It was announced Saturday that Rodriguez, who has been dealing with complications from Covid-19, will not be returning to action in 2020.  He’s been diagnosed with myocarditis, a heart condition that is believed to be a result of his bout with the coronavirus.

The Sox are currently 3-6 through their first nine games, good for last place in the AL East.  Their 5.73 team ERA is the worst in the majors, and this announcement means they won’t be getting help anytime soon.

In 2019, E-Rod went 19-6 with a 3.81 ERA in what was a breakout season for the now 27 year-old.  He would’ve made his season a little less of a headache than it’s likely to be.  Hopefully he can use this time to recover and continue building on that success next season.

Luckily, in this alternate universe, we have Bruins and Celtics playoff action just around the corner.
