Kevin Garnett took to Instagram Friday to post a photo of himself and his BFF Paul Pierce when they were only 15 years of age:
Garnett is from Greensville, South Carolina and Pierce hails from Inglewood, California, so one might wonder how the two became friends at such an early age. NESN.com was the first to report the photo being posted, but unfortunately they were “not sure how these two linked up as teenagers.”
Here at Boston’s Big Four, we consider this to be irresponsible journalism. After some minimal research, I found that KG revealed his teenage friendship with Paul in a 2013 interview. Apparently they played on the same AAU team and participated in basketball camps together:
“What you all don’t know is that Paul and I have history and it’s only right that we come in here and we make history together,” said Garnett. “Thirteen, 14 [years old], tearing up his mom’s living room, breaking vases, almost getting our [butts] whupped. First time I ever experienced Crenshaw [Boulevard] on a Sunday, Paul taking me out being 15, 16 years old. Then finally being able to follow our dreams . . . having some duration together, trying to go to the same school then obviously going different paths then finally meeting up here in Boston, winning a championship, doing the things we’ve been doing since we’ve been here.”
Awesome story, and now there’s an even more awesome picture to go with it. Makes you really appreciate the impact that these two guys had during their time with the Celtics when you consider the fact that their chemistry and friendship began 15 years prior.
