Patriots “Miss Out” On A Couple Running Backs
There were reports on Tuesday that the Patriots were in pursuit of Jets’ running back Bilal Powell.
On Wednesday, it was also said that they were trying to negotiate with the Broncos’ CJ Anderson.
It doesn’t appear that they’ll land either player.
Adam Schefter tweeted early Thursday that the Jets will be re-signing Powell and the South Florida Sun-Sentinel’s Omar Kelly said that the Dolphins offered Anderson more money than the Bears and Patriots, so now it’s up to Denver to match their total.
I say this is good news, because it means the Patriots aren’t throwing money at injury prone players at a position where they don’t really have any immediate needs. As long as Dion Lewis is 100% healthy and ready to go by the time the season starts, we have nothing to worry about at running back. Just re-sign LeGarrette Blount and we’re all set.
Instead their priority should be getting Brady a couple more weapons, fixing the offensive line, and strengthening the defense.
